Talent Management - for high flyers only, or for everyone?
"Is there any point in training people if they are only going to leave? Is the alternative that you don’t train them and they stay?"
"Your people are not your assets, you don’t own them. So why should you invest in their development?"
"Is training an overhead or an investment?"
.. and so the debate goes on.
67% of respondents to a recent CIPD survey saw the most common reason for investing in talent management activities as developing individuals with high potential. However, two-thirds of respondents agree that using the term “talent” can be de-motivating for employees not selected to take part.
Is this a sign of the tide turning? Are people more accepting of fast stream schemes when they can see how candidates get selected? Are they less accepting if the lion’s share of the training budget is allocated to such schemes?
Our view on Talent Management
Promise Development’s view is clear. Everyone in the organisation has talent. Talent needs to be developed across the whole workforce. This doesn't mean training for absolutely everyone in your organisation. But it does mean training the right people - whether they're high-flyers or not - to meet the business goals of the organisation.
We believe in helping develop both individuals and your teams to improve their business performance. And ultimately your bottom line.
